Chapter Five.

Clio

I stormed towards the forecourt gates with a mission in mind. The guy saw me coming and smirked before taking to his heels.

“Clio!” Wraith yelled as I broke into a jog.

This asshole wasn’t getting away from me this time.

I didn’t know who he was, but the stalking had to stop. I couldn’t be one hundred per cent that it was me he was watching, but I was the one who kept seeing him.

Thalia ran beside me, looking worried, and booted feet pounded the concrete behind us.

“Don’t you dare leave the compound,” Wraith bellowed as I sped up and saw the man getting into an expensive silver sedan.

“Stop right there!” I demanded.

The guy tossed a grin over his shoulder and slammed the door, and the car drove off.

“God damn it!” Wraith yelled at me as he finally caught us up. “What were you thinking?”

“He keeps turning up, and it’s suspicious,” I retorted.

“Yeah, we know. That’s why you’ve had a guard assigned to you, woman! Chance is going to blow his stack that you chased after him,” Wraith complained.

My gaze narrowed. “Chance put guards on me?”

“Yup. And he was right to after you just charged heedlessly into danger. What stupid action was that? Say you had caught him, and he knocked you out and dragged you into the car. Or you caught him, and he pulled a gun and put a bullet between your eyes, Clio? Talk about a brainless move!” Wraith yelled, his voice rising at the end.

My pride was stung, but I could not deny Wraith’s words. I had gone after the man without a thought for the consequences. Wraith’s tirade hurt, but he wasn’t in the wrong. Nope, that had been me. As much as I longed to defend myself, I honestly couldn’t. But that didn’t mean I couldn’t try.

“You were running behind us,” I stated.

“Yeah, and I am faster than a speeding bullet, Clio,” Wraith stated sarcastically.

“Oh, shut up. I knew you would keep me safe,” I replied stubbornly.

“Thanks for the faith in my abilities, but as I said, I’m not as fuckin’ superhero. If he’d pulled a gun, you’d both be dead.” Wraith glowered at Thalia and me.

That gave me pause for thought. I didn’t want my sister harmed, despite the fact she was bugging the hell out of me.

“Sorry,” I finally mumbled.

Wraith was right on all accounts. I hadn’t thought, just reacted, and that could have had severe repercussions for Thalia and me. But the guy was starting to bug me. There was something in his expression, a knowing expression as well as a dirty leer. Even though I didn’t recognise him, I had the impression he knew who I was. And that disturbed me.

“Clio,” Chance rumbled from behind.

I held back a sigh and glowered at Wraith.

“Snitch,” I muttered, and Wraith smirked. Fixing a smile on my face, I turned to look at my furious, over-protective husband.

“Hi, honey,” I announced.

“Hey, baby,” Chance replied, not in the same tone as me.

“How loud is your yelling going to get?” I sighed.
